Description of the Institute
The research group has over 20 years experience in infection research both in respiratory and cardiovascular fields. Within the University of Milan a multidisciplinary setting is available with access to many specialists in infectious diseases, microbiology and internal medicine. The Institute of Respiratory Disease is equipped with a molecular biology and serology laboratory fully up to date. Within the IRCCS Ospedale Maggiore di Milano University Hospital is available a network for the study of LRTI with access to more than 200 beds. All laboratories to be used in the work packages are already in use for research into various infectious diseases. The research group collaborates with all major research groups in Italy.

Qualifications and contribution to the project
The research group has a longstanding experience in the field of education applied to LRTIs.
Francesco Blasi is Professor of Respiratory Medicine University of Milan Italy, officer of the European Respiratory Society, Head of the Respiratory Infection Assembly, and member of the European School of Respiratory Medicine (European Respiratory Society) (2005-2008). He organises postgraduate courses and meet the expert sessions for the annual Congresses of the ERS and external courses for the ERSM school in the field of respiratory infections and tuberculosis. He is co-leader of the Work package 12 of GRACE network of excellence that is devoted to the educational activities of the network.
Luigi Allegra is member of the Italian Commission for Continuous Medical Education of the Italian Ministry of Health, with great experience in the design and organization of educational activities.
